(laughs) We went down there one night and recorded a couple of tunes above a bank, right there on Hollywood and Vine. The Bobby Fuller Four.and he had passed away.Ī - No kidding. He was the producer for Ritchie Valens, who had already passed away. We got from that, this recording session in Los Angeles with Robert Keane. We won a Battle Of The Bands in the San Francisco area, at a Teen Fair. The first song we ever recorded was at a studio in Los Angeles. Is that correct?Ī - You know, I don't know where the Scarlet label thing came up. Q - Syndicate Of Sound recorded a single for the Scarlet label that went nowhere. There was a kid standing there and he said "Wow! Psychedelic!" We all turned to each other and said "What?" (laughs) I guess the press had as much to do with that as anybody else. We were standing by the stage, ready to go on and one of the guys just struck a match.

Matter of fact, back in 1966, we were touring and we were some place in Alabama or Mississippi. Then of course, the advent of San Francisco and the drugs.the whole scene, things became psychedelic. I think that kind of turned into Psychedelic, perhaps. Certainly we were influenced by certain bands like The Yardbirds for one.perhaps The Who. An awful lot of young bands playing and coming up. I can only tell you that around the area we were growing up in, which was San Jose, California, there was an awful lot of stuff going on. Q - Don, is it true, as one website has it, that Syndicate Of Sound was one of the forerunners of Psychedelic Rock?Ī - Who knows? (laughs) I've heard that.

It's nice to see the music live on after the gig is over. I know there are a lot of people out there who trade tapes/CDs of my live shows and I think that's great. I am looking forward to being a part of your website. I've always been cool with the idea of taping and trading and, in fact, feel that we would be appreciated by the Deadhead-type crowd so maybe this will give us an introduction to many new people who would like our music. I'd be very happy to be a part of it and if you want to get things rolling that would be great. Wow, that Archive.Org things is very very cool.
